Spoon Guru Limited and Tesco collaborate to help customers with specific dietary needs

Tesco partners with Spoon Guru Limited based in London to evolve its online shopping experience for a growing population with specific dietary needs.

The Spoon Guru Limited co-founder, Markus Stripf, explains how the partnership came about, and what lies behind the inspiration for creating Spoon Guru Limited.

Working with Tesco

The relationship with Tesco developed just over a year ago, when Spoon Guru Limited started using Tesco’s product data in our food search and discovery consumer app.

When we developed our pioneering food preference management solution Tesco immediately saw the potential to help customers. As a first in the UK’s grocery retail space, Spoon Guru Limited now enables Tesco to address a core consumer problem: helping customers with their specific diets and tastes to quickly and easily find food they can eat.

As part of our joint commitment to improve customers’ shopping experience, we are absolutely thrilled to now be working with Tesco as a partner to provide the best customer shopping experience in the UK for people with dietary needs.

The birth of Spoon Guru Limited

The impetus for setting up Spoon Guru Limited came when my wife was diagnosed with multiple food allergies. She found it difficult to work out what she could eat, whether it was in supermarkets, restaurants, or at home. As anybody who has had to adapt to new eating habits finds, ingredients can be easily missed when reading labels and it is much harder to find suitable products.

In response, together with digital pioneers Simon O’Regan and Tim Allen, who also have personal experience of managing food preferences, we set out to create Spoon Guru Limited. From inception, our goal was to support the millions of people who struggle to find food for their specific diets, tastes and health objectives. We are incredibly proud that Tesco is working with us.

How Spoon Guru Limited will work on Tesco.com

The platform will help Tesco customers to filter their food searches. Initially using 11 food intolerances, such as lactose or nuts, and six diets including vegetarian, vegan, low fat, and low salt, with a further 11 diets following later in the year.

It will initially be available on the Tesco.com mobile app, before being rolled out to its full online platform in the summer. The platform will be free to use for all online customers.

Changing dietary needs

Tesco is partnering with us to evolve a game-changing solution for the population’s changing dietary needs. Spoon Guru Limited has now developed into the world’s leading personalised, safe, accurate and easy to use food preference management solution.

Tesco is committed to making it easier and cheaper for customers to make healthier choices. To eat well and eat fresh.
