La La Anthony: From Teenage Radio Intern to Television and Film Star
La La Anthony, born Alani Nicole Anthony on June 25, 1981, in Brooklyn, New York, has built a wide ranging career in entertainment spanning radio, television, reality programming, film and scripted drama.
Anthony’s career began when she was still a teenager. During the mid-1990s, she interned at Atlanta’s Hot 97 radio station. Her early experience in radio eventually led to her hosting a radio show, giving her an early foothold in the entertainment industry.
At 22, Anthony made the transition from radio to television when she joined MTV and became a co-host of Total Request Live. The music program was at the height of its popularity at the time, placing Anthony alongside some of the biggest names in music and entertainment.
Her television career developed alongside her work in film. Anthony made her acting debut in the 2001 comedy Two Can Play That Game. In 2003, she left MTV to pursue other opportunities and established her own production company, Krossover Productions.
Anthony’s personal life also became part of her public profile after she began dating NBA superstar Carmelo Anthony. The couple became engaged in 2004.
In 2010, Anthony became the focus of VH1’s reality series La La’s Full Court Wedding, which followed the events surrounding her upcoming marriage to Carmelo Anthony. The series became a major success for the network and subsequently led to La La’s Full Court Life, which ran from 2011 through 2014.
While appearing on reality television, Anthony continued developing her film career. She appeared in the 2012 romantic comedy Think Like a Man and returned for its 2014 sequel, Think Like a Man Too.
Anthony later shifted her focus increasingly toward scripted acting. In 2014, she joined the cast of the Starz crime drama Power, eventually becoming a series regular during its third season.
Her film and television credits also include Spike Lee’s Chi-Raq (2015) and the police procedural series Unforgettable, which aired on CBS and later A&E.
