Interview with a vivid talented writer, traveller, and photographer Troy Bronson
News24hours staff: Hi Troy, Welcome to our interview. Please tell us more about your career beginnings and
goals? At what level you see yourself five years from now?
Troy Bronson: Hello, I’m Troy, and I’m currently majoring in Media Studies at the University of California Berkeley. My beginnings, I started taking pictures at the age of 10. I won several awards at school and state level. It wasn’t only photography. I was also making flyers, billboards related to politics, and these set me up to continue to doing fashion photography first, it was fun! But then I moved to landscape photography after I got hired by a french Oscar nominee animator. I scouted locations for one of his films in the state of Sinaloa in Mexico, and that was the official start of my career. My main goal, for now, is to graduate from college, But my mid-career goal is to direct a commercial for the Super Bowl! That’s the Olympic game for creative minds. Within five years, I wish to have brands calling me and telling me; hey, we need you to do our commercial for the super bowl! Repeatedly, or exploring movie production and the music industry.
News24hours staff: You have traveled quite a lot. How many countries have you visited and out of it, which
country you liked the most?
Troy Bronson: Travelling is fun, especially when you get to do it for work, location scouting has been such an awesome gig. I never liked these questions because I feel it sounds cocky to spit out a number. But oh well, by now, I have visited around 30+ countries, there you go. Every place I visited is unusual for me. Those moments are still alive through beautiful photographs. My top 3 are; South Africa, Thailand, and Denmark! I could spend days telling you why I love these three so much, but better you should go and explore them yourself!
News24hours staff: Do you love anything more than photography?
Troy Bronson: Yes, media/movie production something I would like to explore deeply, and so the music industry as well. Have not done it to say I love it, but I’ve got a feeling! 😉 I like travelling too much. As its a part of photography, both travelling and photography coexist, and both are of my liking. More than being in love with travelling and photos is about a mindset. About doing it while I can, while I’m young, while I have got the energy to do it!
News24hours staff : What are your ways to spend your free time? If you get any.
Troy Bronson: No free time! Just study time, for now. I usually spend time doing street photography with a couple of friends in San Francisco, going to art exhibits, and exploring new cuisines within the area. Now and then, I take a small plane somewhere random with one of my friends as well.
News24hours staff: What are your upcoming initiatives?
Troy Bronson: I’m currently working on an organization called RAW MEDIA ONLINE, which is a platform that
gives a voice to the underrepresented Native/Indigenous and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) community. The media industry fails to recognize the urgency and importance of BIPOC news and narratives. RAW works to shed light on the Indigenous and Native community, forming a creative coalition with fellow POC communities. RAW media creates a safe platform for all BIPOC media makers to cultivate, collaborate, and display their work: whether it is journalism, photography, writing, graphic design, or videography. Here at the University of California, Berkeley, we’ve Nobel prize winners walking among us, and that serves us as motivation to deliver cutting edge journalism and give a voice to those who don’t have one.
