#MBA: Awareness is the Key
A career in management is desired by many. A random search for MBA jobs in a popular job portal gave more than 74000 jobs, awaiting the right candidate. Though post graduate courses in management remain favorites, it would be advisable to do a fact check. Are students aware of the options available to them? Do they plan well ahead to get into a B-school of their choice? Which all factors determine selection of a B-school?
Many join an MBA programme not knowing what the course demands. Companies often complain that employability is an issue when it comes to placements. There is a significant difference between expectations of candidates and reality on ground. One should do a bit of research about the type of institute he/she wishes to associate with and have a visit to see and verify the facilities and claims in person. While it is wise to have opinions from well wishers, applicants must do some soul searching to find out what they really wish to achieve through a post-graduate programme in management.
The primary or biggest hurdle is the entrance exam or exams, rather. Legal complexities and preferences of institutes make it hard to choose from. For example, if you need to do MBA in Kerala, you need to appear for K-MAT and have a valid score, higher than the declared cut-off limit. A MAT score (#MAT is conducted by #AIMA) will not be enough. To aim for the IIMs, one needs to attempt #CAT. The date for application is over and test was conducted in November, 2017.
Registrations are open for students who wish to appear for C-MAT examination from 20th October, 2017. The last date for #CMAT registration is 15th December 2017 . The C-MAT exam is on 21st of January 2018, 2018, which means that a candidate can have focused training during this period and score high.
It is noted that many don’t pursue a course in management due to lack of awareness, lack of guidance and direction, lack of financial assistance and thorough preparation. By the time information reaches them, it is often late to apply and prepare.
For those who wish to pursue MBA in Kerala, a valid K-MAT score (above decided cut-off mark) is must. The exam is scheduled on 6th February 2018. Registration is open from 15/11/17 to 19/01/2018 For KMAT examination, thorough preparation is needed, to secure high scores. Those with high scores stand to gain scholarships, since most leading B-schools offer them to attract talent.
