Interview with attorney Derek Potts
Derek H Potts is the managing partner of The Potts Law Firm, dealing with mass torts and complex litigation. He is the recipient of the prestigious Thomas J. Conway Young Trial Lawyers’ Award from KCMBA.
Newsdesk1 : Derek, How will you explain your legal career experience ?
Derek Potts : I did my legal studies at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law and earned J.D and I was a member of Mortar Board as I got admittance into Phi Alpha Delta, which helped me towards building my career. The Potts Law firm was started in the year 2002, with the intention to deal with mass torts, complex litigation and class actions.
Newsdesk1 : How did you build your career before founding The Potts Law firm ?
Derek Potts : I served as a Prosecutor Intern in the Wyandotte County, Kansas District Attorney’s office before turning to private practice. Further I served in federal court appointed leadership positions for multiple national litigations, as Liaison and Co-Lead Counsel in In Re Mentor Corp. and leading the trial team in In Re Kugel Mesh Hernia Patch Products Liability Litigation etc., I was also a member of the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee.
Newsdesk1 : How did it felt after receiving the award from KCMBA ?
Derek Potts : Its a great honour, receiving an award for my works motivates me. Thanks to KCMBA.
Newsdesk1 : Is this your first award ?
Derek Potts : No. I have received the Judge Conrad B. Duberstein Appellate Advocacy Award when participated as a member of the National Appellate Advocacy Team selected by the Dean at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law.
